Prayer for Peace

Francis:  ‘May a powerful cry for peace go up from every land!’

As you may know, Pope Francis renewed his appeal for peace in Syria and invited all people of goodwill to take part in a worldwide fast and vigil of prayer and penance Saturday, September 7th.

Greeting Arabic-speaking pilgrims in the square, Pope Francis urged them to “be a presence of God’s mercy and bear witness to the world that tribulations, trials, difficulties, violence and evil can never conquer him who has conquered death: Jesus Christ.”

Francis concluded with, “May a powerful cry for peace go up from every land!”                                                                                  based on NCR Sep. 4, 2013

As Gospel women, we Sisters of Saint Anne and Associates commit ourselves to be a presence of hope, compassion and justice at the heart of our Church and world today.

Let us join with our sisters and brothers everywhere in responding to Pope Francis’ call to prayer and fasting, however we see best.

Together, let us pray fervently that the human family will find a new pathway to lasting peace and true justice for all.

A Litany of Peace  (based on Songs and Prayers from Taize)

O God, the source of justice and peace;

            come, establish peace among nations.

O God, your love brings healing to our hatred and sadness;

            come, bring peace to your church … bring peace to all nations … bring peace to all families … and bring peace to the hearts of all.

O God, Spirit of Life;

            come, help us to tear down walls of mistrust and fear.

O God, your Son Jesus proclaimed peace to all;

            come, help us to bring an end to deprivation, poverty and oppression in our world.

O God, you bless every nation on earth;

            come, sustain in your mercy those who suffer from violence and war.

O God, you love people of every land;

            come, show leaders of nations how to work for justice and peace.

O God, you desire reconciliation and peace;

            come, teach us to be ambassadors of peace each day of our lives.
